Who is C.D. Wright

C. D. Wright, a poet, publisher, and educator, was born in Mountain Home, Arkansas. After earning a BA in French from Memphis State College, she pursued an MFA from the University of Arkansas and published her poetry thesis titled Alla Breve Loving. In 1977, Lost Roads Publishers, founded by Frank Stanford, published Wright’s first collection, Room Rented by A Single Woman. After Stanford’s death, Wright took over Lost Roads and continued its mission of publishing new poets and translations. She later moved to San Francisco, where she married poet Forrest Gander and had a son, Brecht. Wright co-edited Lost Roads until 2005 and completed her third book of poems, Translation of the Gospel Back into Tongues, while living in Dolores Hidalgo, Mexico. In 1983, she began teaching writing at Brown University and continued to do so until her death in 2016.
