Biography Critical Art Ensemble

Critical Art Ensemble, or CAE, is a collective of five tactical media practitioners with expertise in computer graphics and web design, film/video, photography, text art, book art, and performance. Their approach to tactical media is characterized by its situational, ephemeral, and self-terminating nature, using any media necessary to engage specific socio-political contexts in order to create interventions and shocks that challenge authoritarian culture. Since its establishment in 1987 in Tallahassee, Florida, CAE has been invited to exhibit and perform projects addressing issues related to information, communications, and bio-technologies at various museums and cultural institutions around the world. The collective has written 7 books and its writings have been translated into 18 languages. Their work has been covered by numerous art journals and they have received several awards for their innovative and impactful contributions to the field.
