Biography Namkhai Norbu

Chögyal Namkhai Norbu Rinpoche, a prominent 20th century master of Dzogchen, was renowned for leading Buddhist retreats worldwide. As a child, he was recognized as the reincarnation of the esteemed Dzogchen Master Adzom Drugpa and later, by the sixteenth Karmapa, as the reincarnation of Shabdrung Ngawang Namgyal, the first Dharmaraja of Bhutan. In 1960, amid the deteriorating social and political conditions in Tibet, he moved to Italy at the invitation of renowned orientalist Prof. Giuseppe Tucci. There, he played a significant role in promoting Tibetan culture in the West. After teaching Yantra Yoga in Naples for several years, he began imparting Dzogchen teachings in the mid-1970s, sparking increasing interest across the Western world.
